Do Spring Training Stats in Baseball Matter?

At the 2015 MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, there was a wide variety of discussion on what data, stats and analytics mean for athletes and sports.  For baseball, which has a massive amount of stats and data, there is significant insight, but what about spring training?  Do those stats matter and are they relevant to predicting season success?

The Economist’s Dan Rosenhack says spring training stats for individuals do matter.  From being fresh data points to comparison to previous data, there is value.  While wins and losses may not matter for teams, data and stats for players do.
